These three pictures, taken some time during World War 2, show a choir made up of evacuee children at the school. The conductor, Mr Sidney Knapman, was an evacuee teacher who founded the choir.
I was at this school from 1966 to 1969. Not too many good memories, very overbearing and oppressive school, with a limited curriculum. Any veiws on this subject?
I was educated at this school, initially in the Juniors and then the Senior school. Apart from the bullying, I did have a good school life and this reflected in myself being a Fellow of the Financial Accountants (not bad for a secondary pupil) and achieving high management positions in two very large companies. I can still remember some of the nicknames we gave to teachers (Mrs Hopkins - hopalong, Headmaster - baldy, Religious teacher - holy joe etc. I hope that these do not offend). Some of the classes were probably a bit overbearing, but looking at pupils who were in the same year as myself, they seem to have made good and a few have made quite a considerable fortune. The years I was at this school were from 1951 to 1960.
I was a student in the late 60's- 72 would like to know what happened to the old school as moved away just after leaving school and was shocked to find not only Stamford Rd but Rockingham Rd School is also closed as remember that both schools had combined discos, can any one please help with information.
Regards
Martin

I was at Stamford Road from 71 - 75 , did you have a brother Malcolm who would be my age ? Did you move to Scotland during the early seventies ? Yes Stamford Road is long gone and whilst most of the building is still intact ( part of a wing did burn down and there now stands a J Witness centre ) it is part of a county council / NHS education facility . Most of the teachers from your time and mine will have sadly passed away and Rockingham Road school is now a small business centre next to Sainsburys. Hope this helps ...

Hi Chris
Yes Malcolm is the youngest of 3 brothers, I think I can recall your name.
Yes we moved to Scotland back in 1972, as our parents wanted to move home and with the steelworks in Corby starting to close, but can not forget the school days have only been back down there a couple of times but would like to know about the changes to the town with the 2 schools closing and the differance with the new shopping center.
Would so like to know more and to find people we knew all them years ago.
