Civil War Helmet and the Fire Dogs

By Lucy Tyrrell

A small group of us went to the museum to find out a bit about the history of Kettering. Then we had a look around to find our favourite object. I could not choose between 2 different items they were the fire dogs and the civil war helmet. We had to record what they were and what they were for. The fire dogs were two stands that stood either side on the fire rested upon a plank of wood. They were used to cook or roast. The civil war helmet was used in the civil war and were later used for the police force. They had a piece at the front to protect them if the sword slashed acoss your face, but if it came straight at you , you were totally done for.
