Fishing

By Francis Clarke

Franks Fishing Tackle Co.  Wellington Street,  Kettering

Owned by Francis Clarke (Frank)  and then by his son Geoff Clarke both of who kept the business for approx. 20 years.  They sponsored various fishing matches mainly through the Working Mens Club in Wellington Street. I would say that  the majority of anglers from the local area knew both Frank & Geoff from experience of the shop or from entering local matches.

Another person to be remembered in the angling fraternity is Norman Springer who along with his brother had a thriving angling shop in Regent St. Also a gents hairdresser in Avondale Rd. also sold fishing tackle. Obviously fishing was big business then.

Correction to my previous comment. The angling shop in Regent St. was run by Norman Spring, not Springer. The hairdresser in Avondale Rd. who also sold limited fishing products was Jack Fellowes.
