I was born in Kettering in 1939. I don't ever remember a school in Avondale road but I do remember Avondale playing field and the dressing rooms there.
I also took the '11 plus' after leaving Stamford Road Juniors and I remember telling somebody who asked me what I wanted to do when I left school.
I replied "A footballer." and I often wonder if that answer caused them to send me to the Central rather than the Grammer School.
